Hurlburt Field, Andersen Take 1998 Hennessy Trophies RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- The 42nd Annual Hennessy Trophy Awards winners are Hurlburt Field, Fla., in the multiple category, and Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, for the single category. The Air Force Reserve Special Award winner is Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga., and the Air National Guard Special Award winner is Louisville Air National Guard Base, Ky. "The Hennessy Trophy is an annual award presented to the best Air Force food service programs," explained George Miller, chief of the Air Force Services Agency Food Branch. "The award is based on the entire scope of the installation's food service program, including excellence in kitchen, serving, and dining room operations; personnel and readiness training; facility and equipment repair; and maintenance, sanitation, and management effectiveness." Operations in two categories were visited. Installations having only one facility serving at least three meals per day, five days per week are classified as single category. The multiple-facility category bases have more than one main dining facility. "Additionally, each year evaluators select individuals who exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, attitude, and culinary skill," added Miller. Airman First Class Tina Elliott, Nellis AFB, Nev.; and Senior Airman Jason Round at Andersen received the Hennessy Travelers' Association Award of Excellence. The Hennessy Awards are sponsored by the National Restaurant Association, Society for Foodservice Management, and the International Food Service Executives Association. Each of these organizations also provided civilian advisers to accompany the Air Force evaluators. Awards will be presented to the Air Force winning bases' representatives during the NRA's annual meeting and exposition in Chicago May 16. This year's keynote speaker is Gen. Ralph E. Eberhart, vice chief of staff of the Air Force. Air Force News Service story, dated March 30, 1998.
